The experiences of people battling pancreatitis vary, but everyone eventually reaches a ‘Padaav’ where they find relief. This is the story of Manish Kumar Gupta, a resident of Dehradun and a Technical Officer at DRDO.

Manish had his first pancreatitis attack in July 2016. Despite treatment, the pain kept worsening, and Manish realized that he needed to make changes to his diet. Doctors advised him to adopt a low-fat diet, which he started, but the problem persisted. In 2018, the pain returned, and Manish sought treatment at PGI Hospital in Chandigarh, even though he had never consumed alcohol or smoked.

Between 2016 and 2023, Manish was hospitalized 32 times. During this time, a friend told him about ‘Padaav,’ which became a turning point in his life. He began treatment under Padma Shri awardee Vaidya Balendu Prakash, but after some time, Manish discontinued the treatment—a mistake on his part.

In 2023, Manish’s family persuaded him to return to ‘Padaav.’ The treatment there brought relief, reigniting his hope. He says, “There was a time when I wasn’t sure if I would survive. But with the support of my family and ‘Padaav,’ I overcame that mindset.”

Manish now inspires other pancreatitis patients. He says, “The biggest challenge with pancreatitis is eating. You should not eat to fullness; instead, have small portions. Avoid alcohol and smoking. At ‘Padaav,’ the routine is meticulously managed, such as drinking water in the morning, taking light walks, and eating small, timely meals.”

Manish adds, “At ‘Padaav,’ everyone learns from each other’s experiences, and Vaidya Shikha is always available, paying close attention to every patient.”

This is a story of trust, where Manish overcame his struggles with the help of treatment, faith, and family support, and now feels healthy again.
